Progress Reports and Make up Work

Progress Reports will be distributed on Wednesday, September 17.

All Children were given and opportunity on Friday, September 12 to look for, obtain an addtional, or rework any assignment that had not been previously turned in. They were provided with a copy of their progress report so that they could obtain an missing work and complete it during class for 1/2 credit in accordance with my late work policy. If there was an excessive amount of missing work some students were given the opportunity to complete it over the weekend. However, it is the responisbility of the student to return the work Monday completed with their name on it and progress report attached to their class's colored bin.

This opportunity is not going to be a regular occurance every 4.5 weeks so if you notice your child has struggled please assist them in organization and stress to them the importance of completing a task on time.

Conference Week

Report Cards will be received during Conference Week. Any Report Cards not Picked up during the Week of the 22nd - the 28th will be mailed the following week. The children have received their conference forms and should have brought them home by now to be signed. In most cases you will be conferencing with your child's homeroom teacher unless otherwise specified.

African Conflict

As we have been studying Africa over the last couple of months we have been gradually approaching the age of conflict and civil unrest. I will be briefly addressing with your children the dire situations found in such areas as Rwanda, Congo, Darfur, and Somolia. I will be suggesting to them that they ask you for further information or that you assist them in researching it further if they would like to learn more about the injustices that are occuring in this region. I feel that it is necessary to have a parent explain some of these difficult concepts as there may only be a limited amount of material that you wish to reveal to them a this time. Furthermore, I encourage you to become enlightened on the topic so that your children will feel more comfortable talking to you.

Please encourage your child not to be sharing any lotions or other materials that come into skin contact. On Monday in my classroom, we will be cleaning the desks thoroughly, as a precaution, with a disinfectant for the germs of the cold and flu season.

Progress Reports

Today we are sending home Progress Reports. As some of you will notice some of your children are struggling in my class. I have given them the opportunity to turn in any and all missing work for partial credit. The grades will be added today by the end of the day and should be available in iParent over the next day or so.

I have found that most of my students are struggling because of their failure to complete the 2 warm-up questions given daily at the beginning of class and then collected weekly. This one grade because it occurs on such a regular interval can hurt them as mush as it can help them. Please encourage your child to complete these tasks in a timely fashion and be responsible in turning them in weekly.

Post Cards from the Edge

Homeroom Parents will be receiving in the mail this week a welcome post card. This card lists a contact number for me as well as any important upcoming dates. This is definitely refrigerator worthy.
