Also this week we are beginning our study of European colonization in Africa we an overview of the slave trade as well as a look at the concept of colonization as a whole.
Today is a very historic day and what better way to spend social studies class than taking part? My classes today will be watching some of the inaugruation coverage and covering it themseves. Parents, ask your kids what they thought as they watched these events.

Our unit on the Middle East is almost over and we will begin our study of Africa next week. Prior to this we will be testing over the economies and governments of the Middle East. Expect to see a study guide posted soon.
This week we will be looking at the Arab-Israeli conflict in great detail. Students will be producing short articles defending one side or the other in an effort to better understand both perspectives. We will be using some materials from the PBS documentary 'Perspectives', which has a lot of resources online. Check them out!
This week: students will begin the unit on the Middle East in the last century. We'll be exploring the break up of the Ottoman Empire, the establishment of Israel, and more.
Reminders: Wednesday is early release and report cards go out on Friday.
